Finally awake enough to reflect on the party which was a supreme success.

Firstly, Mes came up with the ideas for new games and put in what must have been hours of thought behind the Treasure Hunt items, and how the lottery would work etc. I was deeply impressed, and I think I might see if he has any more ideas for future parties - 2009 is looking like a fun year already! Well done matey!

Secondly a huge thank you to all the very generous donations of prizes from Chuggs, Raggy, Acty, Row, Mes and anyone else I'm being too absent minded to remember! Some people went away with some real gems so hope you're all enjoying those, and commiserations on all those that went away with a 1c vendor item - better luck next time!! Big Smile

Yet again, Jesters go down in history for another storming social event. Glad to see you all had fun, and I'm told it went on long into the early hours!

Sign of a good party! Thanks all for coming. Until next time.

Yes it seemed to go very well.  I was getting worried that no one would be online that night.  It wouldn't have worked without the events being run by Raven and Row and, as Raven said, the prize donaters and people for showing up-so thank you.

While you were off scouring Middle Earth, Raven and I were talking about possibly doing a proper treasure hunt in the future with clues that lead you from one location to another.  I can't really think of another way to do it than to, for example, have a clue that leads to Goldberry in the Old Forest and when the person gets there, there is a person that gives them a clue to the next location.  However, this would mean that we have to use a lot of Jesters people to stand around giving clues.  Can anyone think of a feasible way to run one?  Open it to the whole server? (with a small fee donated to the Jesters ;)-to avoid timewasters)  Or any other way?

Re: The Jesters January 24th Party!!!

I think having Jesters there to be clue bearers would be the best solution really.. Not ideal obviously as they can't join in, but then you could enforce things more e.g. if you wanted teams to travel together they could check that everyone was there. It wouldn't be too much to ask I don't think.. I'd be quite happy to volunteer to be a clue bearer, I love seeing events for the whole server, and I'm sure it'd be just as much of a laugh being in a fellowship/raid of Jesters watching people look confused and trying to find their way from clue to clue. I suppose the other option would be to try and get Codemasters support? I don't know how you go about doing that and if it puts a restriction on how many people can participate..

Thinking of experience with previous server wide events, advertising on the forums in advance is a good plan but everyone forgets the actual day.. So reminders counting down to the day are also very beneficial, as is contacting other kinships to advertise (especially the alliance). The most effective tool that I saw though was actually spamming the OOC channels in every different area at peak time each day for a few days before the event and again on the day.

With regard to prizes... For the server wide horse race and the battle of the bands, etc, we just took donations from Jesters in the weeks upcoming, and then said that everyone who competed had to donate something (without saying what that something was). We ended up with a first prize of about 8g for one event using that method. There's also the possibility of raiding the kin bank for a little bit if donations are slow...

Re: The Jesters January 24th Party!!!

Yep, Row's given me some info on contacting Codies GMs to run a server wide event, going to have a sit down and have a good think about that - there's a lot of forward planning to do and rules attached to doing it that way, but it might help. But like Lily's said, we've done some pretty successful server wide events off our own backs before now, and all it takes are a few reminders, and then a few shout outs on the night - one of my nekkid congas had loads of people who just happened to be in Bree at the time and came along for the event as they saw us talking about it - stuff like that can be priceless as those people have a surprise at how fun it can be.

I also don't mind being the organiser and being a volunteer to be at a clue spot for instance, as that can often be as entertaining as being a participant. Mes, we had such a laugh watching where people were going didn't we, by looking at the Kin Social window at their location, and wondering why someone was in the middle of the Lone Lands at one point. Things like that can be so enjoyable.

I reckon we think about something for spring time, maybe an Easter Egg hunt or something ... oooh idea in motion there! Then we've got time to plan ahead. Easter's 12th April this year.
